As you may (or may not know) I have been the pastoring a local congregation for the past 10 years. Hard to believe!
The work with young people in our church AND in our community is a very important part of Lake B’s identity. We see all young people as bearers of God’s image, with something valuable to contribute to the life of our church AND the life of our greater community. We have strong, committed, experienced youth workers who know how to be with kids and it is a joy to watch them teach, mentor, partner, and care for young people. It is life-changing for all of us – for kids, their families, our church and our community.
The dollars raised from this walk-a-thon will directly go to benefit our community facing children/youth activities and programs:
After-school homework help which serves up to 20 elementary age children, 4-days/week and engages with their families on a regular basis.
Summer day-camp program: 7 weeks, 4-day's/per week serving 60 elementary aged kids, 15 Middle-schoolers & 8 High Schoolers in a leadership development track
Care-Code: a youth-led mental health program that offers workshops for youth/families and promotes mental health resources for teens. This year, our youth Care Code team is designing a mental health journaling project for their peers that they will promote in the Spring. We are piloting the Care Code workshops with a local middle-school and are very excited about that. *Mental health / well-being was something teens themselves told us was desperately needed. Lake B has deepened and grown this work in the past 5 years and are working in close partnership with mental health therapists on all our program design.
Will you support me in this walk-a-thon? I have a personal goal to raise $2500. I know it is do-able! Your contribution would be awesome and super encouraging to me and to our work.
If you have any questions about our work, reach out. I’d love to share more about Lake B, about the work with kids, about Cougar or Seahawk football (lol) and would welcome a chance to connect.
With lots of appreciation,
